ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today at 9:36 a.m. a three-vehicle rear-end crash on Riverside Drive (at the intersection with Red Oak Drive) injured two people as one woman was taken in an ambulance and a man limped to a local medical facility for treatment.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • A Chick-fil-A worker in Monroe County was arrested for sexual battery on August 4 after a complaint was filed on July 16—54-year-old Kevin Kurtz from Jackson is held without bond as the investigation continues.  41 WMGT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Amber Washington was crowned Houston County Teacher of the Year and inspires her 5th graders with creativity and teamwork—her passion for teaching comes full circle in the classroom.  13WMAZ
  • Leaders at the Academy for Classical Education in Macon have updated safety measures ahead of the new school year with active intruder drills, locked classroom doors, and personal panic buttons — a new state law requires these buttons for fast emergency response. The school works to keep students and staff safe by regularly reviewing and practicing these security protocols.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia's Department of Human Services advised EBT cardholders to lock their cards after a cyberattack hacked the call center last Monday and the system rebooted Tuesday; they urged users to download the ConnectEBT app, change their PIN, and check accounts regularly + some cards will be locked before monthly benefits are distributed.  13WMAZ
  • On Tuesday, Macon-Bibb County crews cleared out an unhoused encampment along Riverside Drive after multiple complaints from local residents and businesses. Officials said several weeks of outreach—informing the unhoused of available shelters and services—had preceded the removal, while plans for Mercer University's future School of Medicine on the site remain unannounced.  WGXA

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released food service inspection scores for Middle Georgia restaurants inspected from July 28 to August 1—local eateries in Macon and nearby areas received ratings from perfect to unsatisfactory.  41 WMGT
