  • County workers cleared a homeless encampment on Riverside Drive near downtown Macon on Tuesday, leaving residents without a temporary shelter. Ariel Zimmerman, 26, and Evelyn Listenberger, 25, said their mental health challenges worsened after they were forced to leave their few days at the site—officials say outreach continues to connect those displaced with permanent housing.  WGXA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Driver Donnye Culbreth from Hinesville was killed in a tractor-trailer crash on I-16 eastbound near Coliseum Drive as crews extricated him from his vehicle and closed all lanes—authorities are still investigating the cause.  41 WMGT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Shuster’s Candy and Creamery opened on July 30 in downtown Macon on Poplar Street—reviving a family legacy that began in 1955 when the owner’s grandfather opened a creamery in Newark. Owners Jonathan and Tennille Shuster planned the shop for three years to meet the local need for candy and dessert and said it is open Wednesday through Sunday.  41 WMGT

  • The film And Through The Portal We Go will be screened at the Macon Film Festival on Saturday, August 23 from 5:45 to 7 p.m. at the Douglass Theatre along with Adelfas as a double feature, and director Mike Hayhurst + producer Allison Moy Hayhurst will share insights on its cult satire and time-loop theme.  Middle Georgia Times

  • Today, local officials and community members gathered at Tubman Museum under tents as climate advocates stressed the dangers of record heat and the need for more trees to cool low-income neighborhoods — the group noted last week's heat advisories confirmed extreme conditions.
