  • Storytellers Macon hosts free monthly storytelling events at Grant’s Lounge each second Tuesday—community members share five-minute stories in an open mic format—and the group will hold a fundraiser on Oct. 9 to launch a membership movement that unites listeners and tellers.  The Macon Melody

  • A 23-year-old motorcyclist died after his motorcycle collided with a Ford minivan around 9 a.m. on August 7 on Columbus Road near Columbus West Drive—Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.  41 WMGT

  • Visit Macon will travel to Nashville on September 11th to support Americanafest as WNEX The Creek 100.9 FM returns to promote American roots music and local events (including the Macon Music Revue headlined by Charles Davis).  Middle Georgia Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb County borrowed $50M in bonds to launch its 2025 SPLOST paving projects for 459 roads and nearly 130 miles of resurfacing using funds from SPLOST, GDOT, LMIG, and the general fund. County officials also revised their Complete Streets policy—removing nonvoting community advisory roles and streamlining reviews—to speed up future paving work.  The Macon Newsroom
  • The Georgia Public Service Commission will host a panel on clean energy vehicle technology in Macon on August 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Commissioner Tim Echols will lead the discussion on electric vehicles, fuel sources, and a vehicle showcase.  WGXA

  • The upcoming high school football season will be the final one for Westside High School head coach Shedrick “Spoon” Risper after 17 years as coach and 28 years with the program — a record-setting career. Risper said he is stepping away from the game — he feels it is time to begin his next journey.  WGXA
  • High school softball teams in Macon are preparing for the new season as defending champs Tattnall and top programs like ACE, now led by new coach Andrew Claxton, adjust to roster changes — with returning stars and fresh players shaping their play.
