CRIME NEWS

  • Four men were arrested in connection with an ongoing cargo theft investigation involving stolen trailers loaded with electronics and appliances from Forest Park and Macon — the suspects remain in custody as officials continue to gather evidence.  41 WMGT
  • Jabari Thomas and Wontazious Bivins were convicted of murdering 13-month-old Marcus Ball Jr.—a toddler killed in a Fort Valley apartment dispute—and of shooting and injuring 12-year-old Markailey Ball, with sentencing planned later.  13WMAZ
  • A 33-year-old man was stabbed in south Macon on Monday evening in the 3800 block of Tela Place — deputies arrived at about 10:44 p.m. and took him to a local hospital where doctors reported his condition is critical but stable.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Melody is suing the Bibb County School Board to force release of records that would show the dollar amount of a settlement approved in July 2024 — a figure withheld under student privacy laws. The lawsuit alleges a violation of the open records act and follows a warning from the state Attorney General that the district's approach is not supported by law — prompting public calls for full financial disclosure.  The Macon Melody
  • The Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission is checking if current housing meets the community's needs by asking residents to take a short survey in English and Spanish until Aug. 18 at 5 p.m.—they also approved rezoning for a dozen duplexes near Umiya Temple that will help Hindu worshipers walk to their temple.  The Macon Newsroom
  • Georgia lawmakers in Macon are planning to introduce legislation to improve beef labeling—House Agriculture Committee Chair Robert Dickey said the bill will create a paper trail of cattle feeding practices to ensure shoppers get true grass-fed products.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released restaurant inspection scores in Middle Georgia from August 4 to August 8—scores below 70 are unsatisfactory, scores from 70 to 99 are satisfactory, and scores of 100 are perfect. The report offered clear results on local food service inspections for community dining safety.  41 WMGT

  • The Vine Ingle Junior League Baseball team was welcomed home Monday after winning the U.S. championship at the Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan—hundreds of supporters gathered at Northway Church in Macon while coach Lance Foster praised the team’s effort.  41 WMGT
