  • On Tuesday, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful’s Litter Committee rode in a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office van to inspect five Unionville sites that had been affected by illegal dumping. The tour showed clear improvements—removed tires, cleared trash and even a newly visible cemetery—and officials plan to focus future cleanups on areas still needing work.  The Macon Newsroom
  • Families in Middle Georgia are invited to the free Family Fun Day and Fishing Jamboree at Camp Grace in Roberta on Saturday, August 16th, hosted by Camp Grace and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources—Wildlife Resources Division. Gates open at 8 a.m. for activities like fishing, swimming, ziplining, and healthcare screenings starting at 9 a.m., while the first 200 children aged 5 to 18 receive a free road-and-reel combo for two canned food items.  41 WMGT
  • Open Streets Macon will transform streets into car-free spaces for walking, biking and play this fall as part of its 10th-anniversary celebration—Bike Walk Macon is seeking 100 volunteers and activity partners to help set up and run activities during events on September 28 from 2—6 p.m. and December 7 from 2—5 p.m.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 4th Annual King of Soul Music Festival will be held on Friday, September 12th and Saturday, September 13th to raise funds for the new Otis Redding Center for the Arts and honor Otis Redding’s 84th birthday and his New Orleans shows from the 1960s. The festival will feature an Evening of Respect on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Macon City Auditorium and a Big O Show Homecoming Show and Dance on Saturday with more details to come.  Middle Georgia Times
  • The 20th Macon Film Festival will run from August 21 to 24 at downtown venues and the Museum of Arts and Sciences, opening with the film 'Remaining Native' about a teen runner whose great-grandfather ran 50 miles to escape hardship. The festival started in 2005 when local leaders aimed to boost art in Macon and now shows many film types—including Georgia-made films and music documentaries—to celebrate 20 years of local movies.  The Macon Melody

  • Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller today proposed a fifth consecutive millage rate tax cut — a measure aimed at lowering property taxes for local residents.  WPGA News
