  • On Thursday, officials with the Macon Arts Alliance and family of the late Steven Fulbright dedicated a memorial pavilion at the Mill Hill Community Arts Center to honor his role in downtown Macon’s development—he worked with groups like the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.  WGXA
  • Goodwill of Middle Georgia is hosting a Thrift Week Passport Challenge to mark National Thrift Shop Day, inviting shoppers to visit stores in Macon, Warner Robins, Dublin, and Eatonton to collect stamps and enter for a chance to win a $100 gift card before Saturday—supporting job training and career services for locals. CRIME NEWS

  • Bibb County deputy Manuel Antonio Newton was arrested on August 21 and fired after he admitted to hitting a parked tractor-trailer on I-475 near Zebulon Road on August 3—he was charged with hit-and-run and false report of a crime with a $2,600 bond.  41 WMGT

  • The Macon Film Festival — celebrating its 20th anniversary — will run four days of independent films as past and current leaders review the milestone year and plan future events.  13WMAZ
  • Macon Pride announced a week of events for Pride Week that will start on August 29 at Emerson at Plum with a kickoff event. The schedule has a drag show on September 26, a beer and karaoke night on September 25, Pride in the Park on September 27, and a family picnic on September 28—each event open to everyone.  41 WMGT
  • Nutcracker of Middle Georgia is celebrating its 40th anniversary by offering a free three-day ballet intensive with classes at the Jean Evans Weaver Center for Dance and the Piedmont Grand Opera House — more than 70 dancers from across the region have registered and guest teachers will lead 20 classes covering ballet, pre-pointe, pointe, conditioning, contemporary and ballet variations.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Macon-Bibb County reduced its property tax rate to 9.575—a nearly 53% drop from 2021—following Mayor Lester Miller’s recommendation to help residents keep more money. Commissioners also approved a contract with Professional Paving Services using SPLOST and DOT funds so that the first section of the 36.18-mile Paving the Way program can begin soon.  The Macon Newsroom
