  • A report reveals that a masked man fired rapid gunfire just after midnight today near Zebulon Road Waffle House, forcing patrons to take cover and a stray bullet to damage a nearby hotel window while no one was injured & authorities continue to investigate the incident.  13WMAZ
  • Ben Whitaker, a Dublin nurse accused of shooting his wife Tiffani just months after their marriage, is set to face trial.  13WMAZ
  • Perry police arrested 10 juveniles in connection with 27 vehicle break-ins between June and August 2024—detectives said five vehicles had ignition and steering damage while recovered items included firearms, electronics and shoes.  41 WMGT
  • On Friday, two men were sentenced to life without parole for the 2022 shooting death of a 1-year-old boy at Lakeview Apartments in Fort Valley—prosecutors urged the community to come forward with tips as they plan to charge at least two more suspects by Aug 25.  WGXA
  • Authorities arrested two men after armed robbers held a CVS on Gray Highway in Macon at 9:40 p.m.; deputies caught 20-year-old Elijah Searcy near Mercer University Drive+ and 39-year-old Jamal Roberts who fled into the woods, and both are held without bond.  WGXA

  • Singer/songwriter James McMurtry, whose 11th album The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy was just released, will perform at Macon's Capitol Theatre on Sept. 24 — he will tour several towns to promote his new work.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed high-speed rail route may pass through Macon — linking Atlanta to Savannah as officials study routes and funding. Mayor Lester Miller and county commissioners approved a resolution on July 15, 2025 — $10 million will fund the study until 2027.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon's Bass Road Bridge will reopen today by 5 p.m. after months of detours extended commutes and disrupted local schedules—state crews rebuilt the aged bridge over the railroad tracks while officials warn they may face delays.  13WMAZ
