CRIME NEWS

  • A call-in threat was reported at Mercer University’s main campus in Macon on Wednesday, which forced a shelter-in-place order and led officers to sweep the campus—calls of an active shooter at Central Georgia Technical College were later found to be hoaxes.  WPGA News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stellantis announced a new $41 million center in Monroe County on Wednesday morning—county leaders say it will generate $500 million in taxes in the coming years.  13WMAZ
  • Macon Transit Authority is sending letters to 81 paratransit riders to alert them that their bus service will end in 30 days because they live beyond the three-quarter-mile limit of a regular route—CEO Craig Ross said an internal review showed riders were being served outside the ADA-mandated area.   • At an early Tuesday meeting, Macon-Bibb County Commission awarded Professional Paving Services LLC a $1.9M contract for 9 miles of road paving work—its bid was well below competing estimates and marks the company’s second contract this month. Commissioners also approved an alcohol license for USA Grocer’s Mini Food Stores Inc. on Ingleside Avenue along with agreements for parking rental, a GDOT road grant, Opera House renovations, and a Dell computer purchase.  The Macon Melody

  • The American Jet Sport Association will host its first U.S. Open of Watercross at Sandy Beach Park on Saturday and Sunday — about 100 racers will compete in jet ski races and freestyle events that include high-flying flips and spins.
