Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia will host the 13th Annual Heart of the Dragon Boat Races on September 20 at Sandy Beach on Lake Tobesofkee in Macon — teams from across the Southeast will compete and fundraise to support local mentoring programs.
Local groups including businesses, churches, schools, gyms and military organizations can register with fees starting at $800.

Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller is proposing new property tax exemptions for seniors and will ask state lawmakers to support a resolution at the next commission meeting.
If approved, seniors aged 65 will receive up to $34,000 in exemptions, those 75 up to $64,000 and those 85 and older will pay no property taxes—measures that will take effect Jan. 1 next year—aimed at supporting local spending.
