ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Monroe County Emergency Services responded to a house fire in Bolingbroke today at 3:40 p.m. on the 30 block of Wren Circle near Highway 41 — firefighters struggled to battle the flames due to a fallen powerline and an overwhelming collection of belongings and had to exit when part of the roof collapsed while no one was inside the home.  13WMAZ

CRIME NEWS

  • The Warner Robins Police Department is investigating a family violence shooting at Bradford Place Apartments on August 30 that left three people dead + officers processing the scene advised residents to avoid the area + anyone with information should contact Det. Gary Chambers.  WGXA
  • On Saturday night, Fort Valley police responded to a shooting on Hinton Street and found a bleeding male victim who received CPR before being taken to a Macon hospital for treatment—investigators have identified a person of interest and the case is ongoing.  41 WMGT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forsyth band the Magnificent Marching Machine uses borrowed instruments to help keep at-risk kids off the streets and in school—practicing for four hours every weekend at Monroe County Recreation Department. The non-profit group welcomes members aged seven and older from central Georgia.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgia officials from GDOT, AAA and GSP offered travel tips for Labor Day weekend to help drivers avoid delays. They said drivers should leave early to skip heavy traffic on Friday and Saturday and noted that roads near Macon—such as I-475, I-75 and I-16—may see extra congestion.  13WMAZ

  • Mercer lost to Presbyterian College 15-10 at home after Presbyterian scored a game-winning touchdown with 56 seconds left. Coach Mike Jacobs said his team will review its plays and work to improve for its next game on Sept 13—hoping to bounce back.  The Macon Melody
