The Georgia Trust for Local News is hiring a director of community partnerships to help grow The Macon Melody newsroom in Macon.
The new director will lead advertising and partnership work—oversee local budgeting and build ties with business and civic leaders—and must have at least seven years of relevant experience.
A 56-year-old man was killed and a 79-year-old man was injured in a shooting at a convenience store in East Macon around 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday—Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that a shooting at Family Dollar on Jeffersonville Road left a 56-year-old woman dead and a 79-year-old man critically injured—authorities are now searching for 43-year-old Catrell Tywan Ford, who was last seen near Lancing Lane and is considered armed and dangerous.

The Bibb County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday night to ask the state legislature to lower property taxes for seniors (offering a $10,000 exemption for those aged 65 to 74, a $15,000 exemption for ages 75 to 84, and full tax relief for homeowners 85 and older).
If approved by the governor and passed in a November 2026 referendum, seniors will see lower taxes beginning January 2027.
