- ➤ At the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful received two grants totaling $55,000—$25,000 from the Georgia Beverage Association for recycling and education in the 31206 area and $30,000 from Macon-Bibb County to support beautification at local schools. Executive Director Asha Ellen said the funds will help improve recycling efforts and community spaces. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Historic Macon Foundation is hosting a fall flea market from Oct 3-5 at 357 Oglethorpe St downtown—volunteers have spent months cleaning and pricing donated antiques to support preservation efforts. A ticketed preview party will run Oct 3 from 5-8 p.m.—shoppers can enter free on Oct 4 and 5 with a discount for Historic Macon members. The Macon Melody
- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia will host its 13th annual Heart of the Dragon Boat Race fundraiser tomorrow at Sandy Beach on Lake Tobesofkee, with teams boarding at 8 a.m. and races starting at 10 a.m. The fundraiser supports a mentoring program that serves 164 pairs while more than 150 children — mostly boys — wait for a match. 13WMAZ

- ➤ Twiggs County approved a $5 billion datacenter despite a large opposition turnout — county officials voted for the project at the public meeting. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Twiggs County commissioners approved a $5 billion data center project on Thursday—despite hundreds of residents booing the decision—as they rezoned 291 acres for Eagle Rock Partners. The project, which may create up to 675 jobs, will not start construction until 2028 due to power infrastructure delays and is likely to face legal challenges. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Georgia's Ethics Commission fined Macon Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller $5000 for moving campaign money from his 2024 run to his non-profit Advance Alliance of Georgia Action Fund where he serves as CEO. He must pay the fine & sign a consent agreement within 30 days as he continues serving the community. WGXA
- ➤ Voters in Central Georgia will cast ballots on Nov. 4 in local elections that feature prominent mayor races in Warner Robins and Milledgeville as well as council and referendum contests in various cities. - ➤ Ed and Angie Hubbard have listed their historic 1125 Bond Street home on Airbnb for about $1,000 per night. The 3,500‐square‐foot bright orange house — where musician Duane Allman lived briefly in 1969 and now displays local art and a shrine — was fixed up after its 2024 purchase and will host visiting musicians next June. - ➤ Macon sports icon Jaime Kaplan has mostly regained her strength after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December—she now plays red ball regularly and attends local tennis events. She overcame leukemia and amyloidosis before her current treatment, and she feels nearly like her old self as she recovers. The Macon Melody
