- ➤ Open Streets Macon returns Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. as Bike Walk Macon hosts its tenth anniversary event that will close a 1.4-mile stretch along Monroe, Tatnall and Oglethorpe Streets—inviting families from Pleasant Hill, Tatnall Heights and Beall’s Hill to enjoy walking, biking and skating. 41 WMGT
- ➤ The Annual Run for the Children will take place on a 5K course at the Masonic Home campus in Macon, offering each runner a colorful t-shirt+awards in five age categories. Funds raised through registrations and sponsorships help support food and housing, education and healthcare for the children+directly. Middle Georgia Times
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A Dutch Bros Coffee shop is being considered for north Macon at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on October 27, and if approved it will open on Zebulon Road next to Tropical Smothie Cafe and Jersey Mike's Subs — adding to the growing coffee scene. The new location would join local favorites like Cathedral Coffee and other shops in the area. 13WMAZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Two Macon residents, Kathleen O'Neal and Liz Riley, are building a searchable database of every burial in Rose Hill cemetery — a 50 acre historic site with 16000 recorded graves. Their work began in March and has already cataloged 600 plots, and the project will take about a year to finish. The Macon Melody
- ➤ Local columnist Ed Grisamore had a camellia named 'True Gris' after submitting registration on May 1 and receiving confirmation on May 8, and he will plant seedlings grown at Massee Lane next year. His announcement comes as the American Camellia Society nears its 80th anniversary — a milestone celebrated in our local gardening community. The Macon Melody
- ➤ The Georgia Historical Society will hold a dedication for a new historical marker honoring philanthropist Peyton Anderson — owner of the Macon Telegraph and News — on November 10 at 2:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Cotton Ave green space near Mulberry and 2nd Streets where street parking is available. - ➤ The 2025 Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza will light up downtown every night from 6 to 10 p.m. from November 28th through January 4 with over 1,000,000 festive lights as part of a series of holiday events. Northway Church will host the free Macon Pops concert at First and Poplar Streets — visitors may also enjoy 45-minute light shows along Poplar and Third Streets later in the evening. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Rev. Bob Veazey teaches high school students at First Presbyterian Day School practical life skills such as changing a tire, sewing a button and tying a tie, while also preparing them to cope with loss by writing obituaries. The class includes a visit to Hart’s Mortuary—where students learn about funeral services and supporting grieving family members—to add real-world context to their lessons. The Macon Melody
- ➤ Central High School's Sugarbear Band was named this week's 41NBC Band of the Week — sponsored by the Otis Redding Center for the Arts and Young America Music Schools. Director Cameron Agee said his students' dedication and energy set the band apart in their school community. 41 WMGT

- ➤ GDOT said they began repairing Vineville Avenue in Macon after a gecko chewed through traffic signal wires—misplacing barrels and frustrating drivers for six months—and officials expect the entire road to reopen by early October. WGXA
- ➤ Houston County and the City of Warner Robins will begin a $2.6 million project on Nov. 11 to resurface South Pleasant Hill Road and add sidewalks, and the work will take about seven months plus it comes after delays caused by underground utility issues. 13WMAZ

- ➤ The ACE Gryphons won a 3—2 walk off victory over East Laurens on Senior Night to secure control of the region with only two games remaining. The team overcame a fierce pitching battle and a late rally to improve their playoff position. The Macon Melody
