  • stARTup Studios' inaugural Macon Maker Holiday Market—an indoor, free event hosted at stARTup Studios and The Treasure Finder buildings featuring over 30 local makers—will run on October 11th and 12th with additional dates on November 8th-9th and December 13th-14th.  Middle Georgia Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A West Laurens High School sophomore, Isaiah Freeman, died in a head-on crash — his twin brother and mother were seriously injured when a northbound truck crossed the center line on State Route 31 early Sunday morning, authorities said.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stratford Academy Spirit of Stratford Marching Band was named Band of the Week by 41NBC News for its program (Revolution). Band director Lewis Watson said the students work hard in rehearsals and performances sponsored by the Otis Redding Center for the Arts and Young America Music Schools.  41 WMGT
  • Ed Grisamore’s Gris List shows key numbers that tell about Macon—such as 2.63 inches of rain in October, 4 Halloween events, 13 I-75 exits, and 5 million zippers made daily at the YKK plant—that highlight the city’s history, culture, and landmarks like the Hay House and planetarium at the Museum of Arts & Sciences.  The Macon Melody

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bibb County schools is asking voters to approve a $250M ESPLOST this November to fund upgrades and renovations—using one penny at checkout to help raise the money.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ocmulgee Mounds are closed because the federal government shutdown has locked the gates even though the National Park Service website said parks would be open—visitors drove long distances and turned away disappointedly. Many are now looking for other local attractions as the shutdown continues.  The Macon Melody
  • Olu Brown, a former pastor and small business owner, is running for governor and says he will protect and expand Medicaid, keep rural hospitals open, boost teacher wages, and help small businesses grow. He will use his business and church leadership to fill gaps in healthcare access and improve work conditions for all Georgians.  41 WMGT
  • Macon-Bibb officials broke ground on the HighNote Aviation terminal, shaped like a guitar (honoring Macon's musical heritage) at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport on Monday. The terminal will have a restaurant, conference room, event lawn, and visitor space and is expected to be finished late 2026 or early 2027.  WPGA News

  • Twenty-two players from Fort Valley State and Central State teams were suspended for their next contest after a fight during FVSU's homecoming game—both head coaches were also suspended for one game and the schools were fined under SIAC rules.  WGXA
