  • Food banks in Middle Georgia are boosting their supplies amid a federal shutdown that has lasted eight days and may extend for weeks. The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank and Loaves and Fishes work with over 200 partner agencies to give emergency groceries—helping families face rising food insecurity.  41 WMGT

  • A Fort Valley pecan farmer shows how Central Georgia pecans move from shell to shelf as harvest begins today—providing locals a clear view of the process from orchards to market.  13WMAZ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nichiha USA announced today that it will close its Macon Plant One—where residential products are made—resulting in nearly 200 layoffs as the company shifts its focus to commercial production while support services for affected workers are arranged and Plant Two remains open.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Central Georgia veterans feel discouraged as the government shutdown delays their benefits and support—many say the gap in services deepens their hardship.  13WMAZ
  • Macon Water Authority passed its 2026 budget with no water rate increases and will set aside $113 million for repairing aging water mains and sewers—focusing on overhauls at its Poplar Street and Rocky Creek Road treatment plants. Chairman Gary Bechtel said revenue is down by 50 percent and the authority may consider a municipal option sales tax to help fund future repairs.  WGXA

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A new glamping site in east Bibb County opened in early 2025 with four glass-walled cabins and a geodome to offer a comfortable outdoor experience—developers Joshua Flournoy and his wife built the site at 5680 Ocmulgee East Boulevard with full amenities such as kitchenettes, bathrooms, and climate control.
