COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Happy Hour Service Center invites the community to a State of the Organization Address on October 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rigby’s Entertainment Complex and a Heroes for Happy Hour Super 5K Run and Walk on November 1 at its Warner Robins campus to support programs for adults with developmental disabilities. Former MLB player Sid Bream—set to speak at the address—will feature at the event with a livestream available for those who cannot attend in person. 41 WMGT
- ➤ A West Macon resident has said the overgrown lot at 1548 Westminister Drive—owned by Macon-Bibb since 1996 and last cleared in summer 2019—has become a safety concern for her family, prompting repeated calls to public works. - ➤ Leroy Thomas Jr.'s family, whose brother was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in 2017, said they received a call on Tuesday from a cemetery manager demanding $1,500 to keep his casket in place. Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones ruled the request unlawful—prompting the family to contact a lawyer to pursue legal action. 41 WMGT

- ➤ Textile artist Wini McQueen will debut her interactive exhibit 'Quilt of Names' at Oak Ridge Cemetery on October 31 and November 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit honors 10 million people whose names were lost in the transatlantic slave trade and features spiritual songs by Kelley Dixson — research by the Historic Macon Foundation and a chance to plant Forget-Me-Not flowers. - ➤ The Georgia high school football playoffs are weeks away as Macon teams prepare under different systems—public schools in the GHSA use regional seeding while private schools in the GIAA follow ranking orders. Northeast remains a top contender in the GHSA, and Stratford, FPD along with others aim to earn playoff spots as key games roll into late October and championships are set for November and December.
