COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Warner Robins center empowers adults with disabilities to succeed by offering tailored programs—boosting skills and independence for local residents.  13WMAZ
  • A Macon family appeared on Family Feud and held a watch party at Southwest High School on Monday (two family members who serve as campus police recalled watching the show with their late father). The Bellamy family will return for another taping in January.  WGXA
  • Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful organized volunteer cleanups on Oct. 18 at local schools and community centers as groups cleared litter ahead of Halloween. The organization will host a Treat the Streets event on Oct. 25 at Fort Hill from 9 a.m. until lunch, plant trees with funds from an anonymous donor, and extend its Christmas tree drop-off from Dec. 26 until near the end of January so trees can be chipped into mulch.  The Macon Melody
  • Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Halloween trick-or-treating in Macon-Bibb will be held on October 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and it advises drivers to slow down & for families to use safety measures like walking in groups & using flashlights to keep everyone safe.  41 WMGT

CRIME NEWS

  • Louvonia Davis said her family got a disturbing call when Woodlawn Memorial Park in Macon exhumed her deceased brother from the wrong plot nearly eight years after his burial—now the cemetery demands $1,500 for his reburial, leaving the family upset.  WGXA

CULTURE NEWS

  • After funding concerns, Macon Pops announced Oct. 20 that community partners donated $75,000 to bring back this year's free Christmas Spectacular concert, which features live holiday music and downtown light displays+ The performance kicks off a month-long event that will draw thousands to downtown Macon.  The Macon Melody

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At its Oct. 16 meeting, the Bibb County Board of Education postponed voting on a $914K budget change designed to fund special education needs — board members voiced concerns over spending and planned to review details after the audit.  The Macon Melody

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Georgia Department of Public Health released a Restaurant Report Card that showed food service inspection scores for Middle Georgia restaurants from October 13 to October 17 (scores ranged from unsatisfactory to perfect). The report detailed scores for eateries in several counties, including many in Macon.  41 WMGT
  • Lake Trails of Terror will hold a Halloween event on October 31 to support a local cancer patient—emphasizing that cancer does not define a person.  13WMAZ
  • Dr. Oz said Medicare enrollment continues as normal through December 7 despite the government shutdown—seniors in Macon and across Georgia can still access help with their health plans. He added that new initiatives, including a $50 billion rural transformation fund and increased nurse training, will improve rural healthcare access.  41 WMGT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central Georgian Asa Wall, a sophomore from John Milledge Academy and son of former UGA fullback J.T. Wall, announced his commitment to UGA on Sunday. He chose Georgia over teams like Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt—he is expected to join as a tight end and may contribute on both offense and defense.  13WMAZ
