Families attended the second annual Pumpkin and Paws event at the Bibb County Animal Shelter on Saturday—where free adoptions for about 30 dogs and 20 cats, along with food trucks, games, and vendors, drew many local pet lovers.

The event also provided free microchipping and festive displays with Halloween costumes to help pets find new homes.

Family and friends walked with community leaders in west Macon on Saturday to honor domestic violence victim La'Smockie Fountain—she was fatally shot over 10 years ago during a domestic dispute—and remind the public about available support resources.
