- ➤ Downtown Macon businesses will hand out candy as part of NewTown Macon’s annual Trick-or-Treat Spooktacular that will run from 4-7 p.m. on Oct. 31—stores such as Lawrence Mayer Florist & Flower Delivery and Shuster’s Candy & Creamery will join while law enforcement advises safe travel for trick-or-treaters. - ➤ 13WMAZ and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank are partnering to fight hunger with Stuff the Truck, a food drive running from November 18 through November 20 at select Walmart locations. In Milledgeville on November 18 the drop off is from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., in Dublin on November 19 it runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and in Macon and Warner Robins on November 20 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. 13WMAZ
- ➤ Middle Georgia residents enjoyed a busy start to Halloween with Monday’s golf and bingo tournament and are celebrating today with a toddler party at Monkey Joe’s and horror movie trivia, while later events include a ribbon cutting for a new conference center on Wednesday and family trick-or-treating plus concerts and an opera show on Thursday—bringing a mix of free and ticketed community fun for all ages. - ➤ Goodwill Industries of Middle GA and the CSRA are hosting a cooking class at Helms College campus in Macon this Saturday — a 3-hour session where professional chefs will teach holiday treat baking, decorating and packaging, with a fee of $75 per person and a limit of 15 participants. - ➤ Rebuilding Macon received $230,000 in Community Development and Block Grants to fix homes for elderly and disabled owners in Bibb County—$70,000 will support its youth volunteer program while $160,000 buys supplies for needed repairs like ramps and water heaters. - ➤ Windsor Academy in Macon earned nearly $107,000 from Georgia Promise Scholarships, which helped enroll 80 new students this fall — the program awards $6,500 to families in low-performing public school zones to offer more private school options in Central GA. 13WMAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Saturday, if the shutdown continues, millions of Americans including 1.4 million in Georgia may lose SNAP benefits used to buy food as the USDA says there is not enough funding for November benefits — local residents in Macon fear food insecurity. WGXA
- ➤ Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority will launch door-to-door rapid transit next Monday using the Rides on Demand app — serving downtown, Shirley Hills, Gray Highway, and Ingleside — to improve local travel. Riders will pay $5 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and $8 from 6 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. — the program will expand into South Bibb by mid-December — as officials monitor demand. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Georgia state park visitors could soon pay higher fees as proposed increases would double daily entry fees from $5 to $10 and raise annual passes from $50 to $70 starting in January 2026—if approved by the DNR Board of Natural Resources.
