CULTURE NEWS

  • Simri Rose, who designed Macon’s 60-acre Rose Hill Cemetery, is buried on a bluff overlooking the Ocmulgee River with a tall stone monument marking his grave—his design created a walkable garden cemetery that holds about 16,000 burials and anchors Macon’s history.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon Fashion Week 2025 is turning the city into a hub for style and sustainability from Nov. 3 to Nov. 8—local and Indigenous designers will showcase their works in free pop-ups, panels, and runway shows. Today at noon, a virtual Fashion and AI session starts and later events include interactive discussions on ethical fashion—VIP upgrades are available for select events.  WGXA
  • Sandra Aronson donated two historic photos showing the first motorized fire truck and its 1910 crash to the Macon-Bibb Fire Department on Monday. She and her sister honored their parents and retired Captain Jimmy McCallum—whose memory is celebrated locally—with the donation.  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jones County High School’s Greyhound Band was named 41NBC Band of the Week as Band Director Sean Cleland noted nearly 30% of the members are underclassmen and praised their hard work and growth as performers and individuals—setting the stage for a strong future for the band.  41 WMGT

FINANCE NEWS

  • Local financial experts advised families to budget carefully and contact lenders early as the government shutdown has cut benefits. They warned residents to watch for scams when seeking low-interest loans while managing hard decisions about bills, groceries, and medicine.  41 WMGT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Macon-Bibb County demolished an old Exxon gas station on Spring St. and Riverside Dr. to pave the way for an Ocmulgee Heritage Trail trailhead that will connect downtown, the river, and upcoming Mercer University development—county officials said the project marks a key step in revitalizing the area. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place Friday at 10:30 a.m. near the new medical school site.  WGXA
  • The Business Improvement District board invested $100K to improve downtown safety and cleanliness. A new outreach specialist will be hired and patrols will expand to address homelessness and nightlife safety concerns downtown.  13WMAZ

  • Macon doctor Clyde Green is leading relief efforts in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa devastated the island—the strongest storm recorded—with donations and aid now underway.  13WMAZ

  • Today, Rutland High School celebrates Flint Energies Power Lineman of the Week—Line Maintenance Supervisor Greg Hill and defensive end Jonah Johnson—who show power, determination, and pride on and off the field.  41 WMGT
  • Mercer Bears won a 52—28 game against Furman on Saturday, keeping their record perfect in league play. Freshman quarterback Brayden Atkinson led the comeback and Mercer will face Western Carolina at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN Plus in a game that could decide the conference championship.  41 WMGT
  • On Sunday, hundreds of Atlanta Falcons fans gathered at Luther Williams Field for a watch party against the New England Patriots — former fullback Ovie Mughelli also joined the event.  13WMAZ
