COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ATKM is hosting its Annual Christmas Gala Fundraiser today at 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the AOB Church Annex Building on James Williams Industrial Drive in Byron — the event will offer dinner, fellowship and festive holiday cheer to raise funds for community programs.  41 WMGT
  • Macon's Michael Lynch, a Vietnam veteran and former chapter president of Chapter 443, started a bench tradition by placing a heavy granite bench on the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail to honor living Vietnam veterans—he said it was long overdue as a welcome home gesture. Eleven similar benches now stand at local sites to commemorate those who served.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon’s Downtown Rotary Club is packing boxes of groceries for families in need as it works to expand its Feed 100+ program to serve 250 families for Thanksgiving. Club president Horace Holmes Jr. said the 20th-anniversary effort uses about 100 volunteers and local donations—supporting many families during the holiday season.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon Burger Week returns Nov 7–15 — 24 local restaurants will serve unique $12 burgers presented by the Georgia Beef Board and Visit Macon.   • The Better Business Bureau warns Middle Georgia residents about scam calls and texts claiming to help with Medicare or Healthcare.gov coverage during open enrollment, saying these scams aim to steal personal data and can lead to identity theft — officials advise using only official sites to manage coverage.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Braddock's Cask and Table, opened July 5 by Chef Ingrid Davis and Brittan Braddock at 347 Cotton Ave downtown, serves seasonal scratch-made dishes and a warm space for community gatherings – it hosts Sunday brunch and monthly wine dinners that bring neighbors together.  The Macon Melody
  • Theatre Macon presents 'Our Country’s Good,' a play about redemption and resilience that runs from Nov 7-16 at 438 Cherry St with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets start at $25 and military and student discounts are available—director Jim Crisp says the production renews a historical tale of art uplifting humanity.  The Macon Melody

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Mercer University broke ground on its largest project—a new downtown medical school and multi-use building that will add housing, restaurants and offices to help local business and serve Georgia medical students. The $400 million project will span 150,000 square feet and is expected to be finished in fall.  41 WMGT
  • Heard Elementary students celebrated reaching their accelerated reading goals with a party—featuring movies, candy and pajamas.  13WMAZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Macon-Bibb County Commission approved $150,000 in funding during a meeting on Tuesday to fight food insecurity in Central Georgia. A press conference on November 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank —4490 Ocmulgee East Boulevard— detailed how the funds were to be distributed.  13WMAZ

  • Columnist Ed Grisamore, a longtime Food Network fan, has invited Guy Fieri to visit Macon and try Fincher's Barbecue—one of the city's oldest and most loved spots. Fan Jake Fincher has posted over 120 TikTok videos to urge Fieri to come, highlighting the restaurant's rich heritage and strong local support.  The Macon Melody

  • FPD Vikings beat Strong Rock Christian 42-7 in a GIAA quarterfinal playoff game at George S. Johnson Memorial Stadium in Macon on Nov. 7 — the win lifted their record to 8-3 and set up a semifinal against Brookstone in Columbus next week.  The Macon Melody
