- ➤ Local groups and businesses are offering free Thanksgiving meals and giveaways in Middle Georgia — options include a turkey gift card giveaway on November 24 at the Ice Bar & Grill, today’s turkey giveaway at Theron Ussery Community Center at 11 a.m., and free dinner events on November 26 and November 27 in Macon. - ➤ Macon-Bibb is kicking off holiday festivities downtown as Thanksgiving nears — with the fire department urging fire safety and community organizations planning a drive-through food giveaway on Saturday for families. City leaders have also discussed changes to mayoral term limits and a new theme bar has opened, adding to the seasonal spirit. WPGA News
- ➤ On Nov. 14, volunteers from Change The Tracts delivered boxes of food to 50 seniors living in 194 subsidized apartments at the Dempsey Hotel in downtown Macon — the boxes contained chips, canned beans, spaghetti and cookies. The nonprofit, founded by Patrick Haynes and supported by a $2,500 grant in August, will return over the next couple of months with more donations as long as funding lasts. The Macon Melody

- ➤ Macon-Bibb Fire Department warned families to follow safe turkey-frying practices this Thanksgiving. - ➤ A study from the Georgia Health Initiative said health care premiums will more than double soon—putting many relying on the Affordable Care Act at risk of losing coverage when subsidies expire on Dec. 31. - ➤ Macon Violence Prevention and Macon Mental Health Matters will host the Mens-Giving meet-up on Monday evening at Serenity Entertainment on Poplar Street from 6:30 to 8 p.m.—a monthly event that gives about 20 local men a space to share and learn coping strategies during National Men’s Health Awareness Month.
