COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Float builder Kip Dingler has designed, built and decorated floats for Macon’s Christmas parade for 43 years — he is preparing his holiday float for Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. and will deliver it to the parade while also taking part in nine other parades in Alabama and Georgia.  The Macon Melody
  • Layers, a family-run bakery on Vineville Avenue, opened in February 2023 and has expanded into a new space next door to offer baked goods, drinks + Layers-branded merch after winning Macon Baking Week three years in a row. The owners, Steve, Reia + Sydnie, bake every item from scratch with care and plan to donate to local events while considering a soup kitchen for those in need.  The Macon Melody
  • Roberts Christmas Tree Farm in Byron welcomes families searching for fresh-cut Christmas trees in a tradition started in 1978—visitors can drive onto the property and walk the fields to choose a tree while festivities continue until November 30.  41 WMGT
  • Central Georgia families kept their annual Black Friday tradition alive by choosing either an early or later start to catch deals—continuing a custom passed down through generations—and by supporting local retailers—an important local custom.  13WMAZ
  • After Thanksgiving, cities across Middle Georgia have marked the start of the holiday season with events that include a free concert held in Macon on Nov. 28 and a Merry Market in Roberta today with vendors, food trucks and crafts. Other cities, like Warner Robins, Cochran, Milledgeville and Eastman, will host parades, tree lightings and winter bazaars in early December—details will be updated as plans progress.  WGXA

  • Two longtime Macon shops, Rumor Boutique and Carol’s Linens, are preparing for Small Business Saturday today to support local business as Rumor Boutique marks 20 years and Carol’s Linens brings 48 years of service on the Prado—both owners stress that every purchase strengthens their community ties.  41 WMGT

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Friday, hundreds gathered downtown to see five blocks turn into a winter wonderland at the Macon Pops Christmas Spectacular—over one million lights danced to more than 40 songs by the Macon Pops Orchestra highlighting local artists. The festive display will run nightly from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Jan. 4.  WGXA
  • Families in Central Georgia turned Black Friday into a new tradition by visiting Christmas tree farms to cut their own trees and enjoy seasonal activities. At Skipper Family Farms, visitors picked trees ranging from six to 13 feet tall and many experienced it for the first time — marking a fresh start for their holiday celebrations.  13WMAZ

  • 13WMAZ is covering high school football as the playoffs begin with only five Central Georgia teams remaining in the big dance (GHSA quarterfinal scores will be updated live while GIAA teams hold their state championship trophies) to keep local fans informed.  13WMAZ
