  • County officials and local business leaders are addressing continued homelessness in downtown as Dr. Jake Hall’s outreach team works to connect individuals with housing services—business owners report that encampments cleared from one site have not resolved recurring issues.   • Local community members gathered at the Little Richard House +Resource Center+ on Dec. 5 to honor Little Richard’s 93rd birthday with renewed memorabilia displays and plans for youth educational programs +in Pleasant Hill+.  The Macon Melody

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Georgia Power reached an agreement with the Georgia PSC that is expected to lower bills by about $102 per year + customers will benefit once the plan is finalized.  13WMAZ
  • Georgia Power announced an expansion deal (aimed at lowering rates) as it asked the PSC to certify energy resources equal to five times the output of the Plant Vogtle reactors. The plan will support rising data center demand and may cut bills by $8.50 per month if approved next week.  The Macon Melody

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local leaders and community advocates are seeking national park status for Ocmulgee Mounds despite opposition from the Park Service — officials say the bid remains under review with further discussions expected soon.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Georgia will provide Narcan to over 2,300 public schools as part of a new state program prompted by Wesley’s Law and rising opioid overdoses. The rollout is planned to be completed by early 2026 to help schools quickly respond in emergencies.  13WMAZ

  • Northeast Raiders coach Martravious Little is turning the team around by leading them to three wins in five games, including a tough match against top team Putnam County — he draws on his family roots and remembers his late mother to inspire the players.  The Macon Melody
  • Mercer Athletics announced that former defensive coordinator and West Georgia head coach Joel Taylor has been hired as the new football coach & will replace Mike Jacobs who left for Toledo.  13WMAZ
