COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The historic Joseph N. Neel's Department Store sign was installed and lit on Wed, Dec. 17 atop the Neel's Lofts development (at 462 Cherry Street) as part of downtown Macon's revitalization. The project, led by H2 Capital and Piedmont Construction Group, will welcome residents in 2026.  Middle Georgia Times
  • Visit Macon reported that over 18,000 people attended Marche de Noel at Cherry Street Plaza over ten days, boosting local sales at restaurants and shops. Organizers plan to expand the market next year to welcome even more attendees.  WGXA

  • Central Georgia Christmas lights events bring festive cheer with displays in Downtown Macon (Nov. 28 to Jan. 4), Mercer Village (until Jan. 4), Fort Valley (nightly until Jan. 1), Eastman (6 to 11 p.m.), Kathleen (Dec. 19 to 21), Dublin (Nov. 28 to Dec. 28) and Milledgeville (Dec. 12 to 25).  13WMAZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bibb County Schools now embed credit recovery into the school year with students using three-week cycles to make up assignments rather than relying on summer school. Superintendent Dan Sims said the approach focuses on immediate learning (and may reduce costs) while still offering summer enrichment opportunities.  13WMAZ
  • Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority hosted its Holiday Mixer at The Overlook on First, celebrating year-end success and launching a new Advanced Manufacturing Pathway at The Technology and Innovation Academy (an extension of Hutchings College and Career Academy) to equip students for future manufacturing careers starting in August.  Middle Georgia Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Baldwin County is seeking a $2 million grant to fund a new workforce housing project for local workers. Officials plan to move forward with the proposal if the grant is approved (details are pending review).  13WMAZ
  • Macon’s Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will launch Project P.A.U.S.E. (Pedestrian Awareness and Understanding Safety Education) today using a $211,425.74 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to reduce pedestrian injuries on busy routes like Gray Highway and Eisenhower Parkway.  41 WMGT
  • Macon Water Authority is investigating discolored water reported by locals — official tests are underway and residents will be updated as results come in.  13WMAZ
  • The Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office has received a $211K grant to launch Project P.A.U.S.E (Pedestrian Awareness and Understanding Safety Education) for youth and seniors in Bibb, Crawford, and Peach counties; the project began Dec. 1 and will run until Sep. 30.  WGXA

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Storage Sense opened its temperature-controlled self-storage facility at 1630 Eisenhower Parkway; the 143,725 sqft building offers 775 units built to protect valuables and will add outdoor storage for vehicles and boats in Phase 2.
