- ➤ The Salvation Army reported that housing requests in Central Georgia rose from 5% to 10% amid rising mental health struggles for families during the holiday season + the agency is working to expand rental and shelter support. 13WMAZ

- ➤ A small town in McIntyre with fewer than 600 residents opens its first liquor store today to end 30-mile trips for alcohol and curb illegal sales + boost local convenience. 13WMAZ
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central Georgia groups offer live Christmas tree recycling events after the holidays. Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful accepts trees with decorations removed at 1010 11th Street from Dec. 26 through Jan. 10 and trees will be chipped for a fish habitat (Warner Robins and Dublin hold similar drop-offs). 13WMAZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County commissioners approved funding to upgrade Carolyn Crayton Park’s softball field with new lighting and renovations—setting the stage for larger tournaments—and to improve Third Street sidewalks from Walnut Street to Plum Street for better downtown walkability. WGXA
- ➤ Macon-Bibb County will see many improvements in 2026 as the Macon Water Authority’s nonprofit boosts bill aid, a new downtown homeless outreach specialist is hired, courthouse renovations are scheduled, a Strategic Pathways program starts, and Cherry Street sidewalks are replaced — all to better serve residents. - ➤ Macon-Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones is offering free rides to help residents avoid impaired driving this holiday season in Macon-Bibb County. The service begins on New Year's Eve at 5:00 p.m. and runs through the night (a program running for 14 years). WGXA
