Macon-Bibb is offering a summer program called Lead With Literacy to help 12 families build stronger bonds through weekly meetings with family coaches that include discussions, games, and shared reading.

Families must register on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bloomfield Gilead Recreation Center and then meet every Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. from July 10 through Sept. 4.

The Salvation Army opened a cooling center at 1955 Broadway in Macon on Monday at noon to help residents cope with dangerous heat as the index rose above 110 degrees.
