Susan Joseph plans to expand her innovative shelter model to Macon-Bibb to ease overcrowding at local animal shelters and address urgent animal welfare needs.

Bibb County’s animal shelter is overcrowded and facing euthanasia of dogs due to space limits, so Rhode Island-based Susan Joseph—founder of New England Humane Society—is proposing a new facility for cruelty cases and heartworm-positive dogs along with mobile units to bring care to the community. She will work with local officials and expand volunteer networks to prevent further losses and improve animal adoption rates.

The Middle Georgia Regional Library System is running a mobile library that brings books, crafts and educational activities to neighborhoods such as Sandy Springs Apartment Complex—operator Yufiel Franklin tailors his selection to the audience's age and now students in several counties can use their school lunch numbers to borrow books.

The annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park + a free shuttle will carry visitors from Macon Bibb County Health Plaza at 171 Emery Highway while Native American performers, interpreters, dancers and crafters share stories, music and crafts.

Data from 2024 and 2025 shows that Bibb County emergency response times improved by only 14% instead of the 30% faster response Sheriff Davis claimed as call counts rose.
