- ➤ Firefighters quickly responded to a house fire on Pio Nono Avenue in Macon but could not save a blind 63-year-old woman—she died in the blaze. 13WMAZ
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Macon man pleaded guilty to trafficking meth and was sentenced to 30 years in prison with 20 years to serve without parole on August 25 in Houston County Superior Court—he must also pay a $200000 fine and is banned from returning to Houston County. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Law enforcement is responding to a reported active shooter at Central Georgia Technical College’s Macon campus—officers have locked down the school as they work to secure the area. 13WMAZ
- ➤ A jury convicted 33-year-old Deon Banks of murdering Milton Jolly and George Brooks and of sexually assaulting a woman during a 2022 home invasion at a Macon home—he will serve three consecutive life sentences plus five years. WGXA
- ➤ A Macon man and former state house candidate, James Frank Austin Jr., will plead guilty to fraud for using more than $2M in COVID relief funds for personal purchases such as a $120,000 Bentley—his plea hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today in federal court. 13WMAZ

- ➤ One Big Fish Fry will be held on August 29 at 5 p.m. at 1410 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in the historic Greenwood Bottom District—bringing residents together with free fried fish, live music and community talks about neighborhood revitalization. 41 WMGT
- ➤ Macon Magazine and NewTown Macon launch the first-ever Restaurant Week in downtown Macon from September 12—20, offering tiered specials at 17 restaurants.
