  • Habitat for Humanity dedicated a new home on Feb Avenue in memory of late NewTown Macon CEO Josh Rogers, who passed away in November 2024 — his efforts helped revitalize downtown. The project was built with help from Rotary Clubs, donors, and volunteers — giving a local family a new place to settle.  WGXA
  • Ashley Reynolds, a parent in South Bibb, says speeders on Allen Road near Sofkee Industrial Park are endangering her twins as they ride the bus to school. She asked Macon-Bibb County to consider speed bumps—measures that may slow drivers and keep children safe.  WGXA
  • Local gyms in Macon are offering discount programs to help federal workers as a government shutdown looms. The discounts will lower membership fees during the shutdown and support workers until operations resume—providing financial relief during uncertain times.  13WMAZ
  • Former MLB pitcher Jim Morris—who inspired the film The Rookie—spoke at a fundraiser for the Methodist Home for Children and Youth in Macon on Oct. 2 and urged support to help kids build a better future.  The Macon Melody

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nichiha USA partially closed its Macon plant by shifting residential production from Plant 1 to Plant 2—which now handles commercial structures—and will support employees affected by the change.  WGXA

CRIME NEWS

  • Laurens County authorities are searching for missing 16-year-old Addison Dickey, who was last seen in East Dublin on October 4 and is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall — with blonde hair, blue eyes, and weighing 145 pounds — while urging anyone with information to call 911.  WGXA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials broke ground on a guitar shaped terminal at Middle Georgia Regional Airport on October 6 as the two-story building will cover 214,000 square feet for fueling, maintenance, a lounge and a restaurant. Construction will start in January and finish in early 2027—$20 million in county bonds will fund the project to boost jobs and local tax revenue.  The Macon Melody
  • Macon Water Authority approved the 2026 budget on Oct. 2, 2025 but the board did not agree on raising water rates to cover upcoming projects—some members favored a 5% rate increase while a state senator proposed a Municipal Option Sales Tax to bring in additional revenue. The decision affects how the authority will fund nearly $250 million in deferred maintenance and other improvements.  The Macon Melody
  • GDOT said that a portion of Tucker Road will close next week—detours and slowdowns are expected for drivers. Local officials advise motorists to check for updates before traveling the area.  13WMAZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joanne Seay, 81, a central Georgia resident, beat breast cancer three times and says regular mammograms helped catch the illness early—she has relied on friendships and faith to stay strong.  13WMAZ

  • John Milledge Academy Trojans will face the FPD Vikings Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in a key region game as they seek to avenge last season’s loss—after a recent 51 to 13 win over Stratford, coach J.T. Wall said his young team is ready to reclaim bragging rights.  41 WMGT
